Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Bitcoin Panic (“we”, “us”) operates bitcoinpanic.com, an independently run information site. We publish it privately and don't list company or personal details here.
2. We don't ask you for anything
This site isn't designed to collect data about you, and it doesn't ask you for any information whatsoever. There are no contact forms, no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comments and no shopping basket. We haven't built any mechanism to identify you or to build a profile of you, and we don't want one.
We aim to collect no non-essential data at all. What little we do hold is a by-product of putting a website on the internet, described below.
3. Our servers and Cloudflare
We definitely use two things: our own server infrastructure, and Cloudflare, which sits in front of the site to serve it quickly and to block attacks.
Like every web server, ours writes access logs. A log line typically records the IP address the request came from, the page requested, the time, the browser's user agent and the response code. Cloudflare records similar information at its edge and may set a cookie of its own for security purposes. We use these logs for two things only: keeping the servers running well, and keeping them secure. We don't use them to work out who you are, and we don't try to link them to anything else.
4. Analytics
We may use analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Bing to understand which pages people find useful. The purpose is to work out where to improve the site so it serves visitors better, not to follow individuals around. Any such tool is set up to report on traffic in aggregate.
Where an analytics tool is active it will usually set cookies or read identifiers in your browser, and the company behind it will receive data directly from your device. That processing is theirs, not ours, and it's covered by their own privacy policy.
5. Third-party scripts and data
Some parts of a modern website come from other companies: analytics, fonts, images, embedded content and market data. Anything loaded by your browser from another company means that company can see your IP address and basic request details. We can't be responsible for how those third parties treat the data they collect, and you should read their policies if you want the detail.
On this site today that means:
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces, so Google sees the request from your browser.
- The Bitcoin price comes from CoinGecko, but we fetch it from our own server and cache it. Your browser never contacts CoinGecko, so they don't see you.
- Outbound links to exchanges, brokers and news sites. Once you click one you're on their site and their rules apply. Some of those links are affiliate links, which means the destination may know the visit came from us.
6. Cookies
We set one cookie of our own, and only if you use the light and dark theme switch: it remembers which theme you chose. It holds nothing else. Cloudflare and any analytics tool in use may set their own cookies as described above.
7. Your rights
Data protection law gives you rights over personal data about you, including the right to ask what is held, to ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and to complain to a regulator. Since we don't ask you for personal data and hold no accounts, in practice there's usually nothing for us to look up beyond raw server logs, and we generally couldn't connect a log entry to you without asking for more information than we'd want to hold. If you need to reach us about privacy, the quickest route is a message through the contact details published by our hosting or domain records.
8. Retention
Server and security logs are kept for a short period, long enough to investigate faults and abuse, and are then rotated away. We keep no other records of visits.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page.
